Zombivli
Zombivli is another great attempt at the ‘Zombie Comedy’ genre and it hits all the right places- comedy, drama, message, performances to become a perfect family entertainer! A must-watch!
Marathi Cinema is known for great stories and out-of-the box concepts. This time too, with Zombivli, the makers attempt the Zombie Comedy genre which is the easiest to go wrong and look foolish if not executed well. However, with such a great storyline with a message and amazing performances blended with perfect comedy and drama… Zombivli becomes such a fun ride.
Indian Cinema has seen a very few good Zombie Movies. Go Goa Gone, Betaal which is a web-series on Netflix, Dibaker Banerjee’s film in the Ghost Stories anthology on Netflix, these films will top the list. And now, an addition to these is Zombivli. It revolves around a couple who has recently been transferred to the Dombivli area of Mumbai to work in a bottled water factory. Lesser they knew about the water shortage issues in the area which has forced the slum dwellers to drink water from waste pipeline and turn into Zombies. What lies ahead is a comedy which is thrilling and entertaining. What makes it so relatable is that this problem of water shortage exists in reality and it is because of capitalists and bureaucrats’ selfish motives. Also, the depiction of the way rich and middle-class view people who live in the slums is very accurate.
The performances are really nice. Every character has a story, a different personality trait which has been so nicely focused on. Vaidehi Parashurami, Amey Wagh, Lalit Prabhakar and Janaki Pathak perform their role excellently. Amey with his very reactions and facial expressions is able to add humour. His comic timings are really nice.
The editing and cinematography are decent. The VFX and Special Effects used in the Zombie making are really clean and this film is really above the standards of a regular Marathi film in terms of its production value. The producers, Yoodlee Films (A division of Saregama) have done a great job. Yoodlee has been focusing a lot on regional cinema to bring local stories to the front of a worldwide audience and it is doing a fantastic job. The BGM also adds the element of thrill and horror without being too creepy and help create the needed atmosphere.
On the whole, Zombivli hits all the right places- comedy, drama, message, performances to become a perfect family entertainer! A must-watch! It is screening at cinemas near you. In case, this has released outside Maharashtra, it is playing with English Subtitles and you can watch it!
