A film inside a film, ‘An Action Hero’ is power-packed, funny, and very entertaining. Ayushman Khurana is amazing in this never-seen-before role. The climax and BGM are a cherry on the top.

Ayushman Khurana’s first action-film and you get to see him in a never-before avatar doing power-packed action and all sorts of stunts! Written and Directed by debutant Aniruddh Iyer, who has previously worked as an Assistant Director with Aanand L Rai on his films including Zero, Tannu Weds Mannu etc. With the way he has executed this film, it is very hard to believe that it is his first.

An Action Hero revolves around a reel life action hero who will soon become a real life action hero too as an accident on a film set makes him flea to the UK. But hiding isn’t going to be easy with the kind of stardom he has and things get really messy one after the other. How is he going to get back? Lies ahead is a roller-coaster comedy of errors filled with immense action and fun!

On the performance front, Ayushman delivers exceptionally. It is his first time in a character which isn’t the ‘desi small-town boy’. Also, the film doesn’t have any social theme or underlying message. He has worked hard and that is visible. He does the stunts and action very smoothly and impactfully. Jaideep Alahwat does his bit commendably adding his peculiar raw charm. It is noteworthy how this film doesn’t have any unnecessary female lead just for the sake of it. Nor is there any out-of-nowhere love song or unwanted drama.

In terms of the technical front, first things first – the action choreography is brilliantly done! It is so neat, crisp, unique, and impactful. There are a lot of never-seen-before action scenes. All of this looks so great on screen because of the camera work. Not only this, the backdrop of beautiful London is also enhanced by the cinematography. The editing is tight and the length of the film doesn’t seem long at all. Special mention to the excellent BGM. The tempo and high beats just add so much to the entire film’s mood and feel. The theme song, Asli Action Chalu is what the BGM is made of. Along with it, the soundtrack is also decent with a couple of great songs like – Jehda Nasha, and the classic Aap Jaisa Remix.

On the whole, ‘An Action Hero’ has ample action, humour, and entertainment. The punches (both the dialogue and action ones) are very strong to be missed. You might not enjoy this film as much on OTT as much on the big-screen and hence, it should be watched in the cinema halls to feel every beat of the Dolby Atmos sound and stunning visuals. Also, there is a surprise gift for all the Akshay Kumar fans – a cameo of the biggest action hero of Bollywood! Also, Malaika Arora after a long time in an item number is unmissable!
