Ghar Waapsi
Ghar Waapsi is nothing but all adjectives that can possibly be used with relatable. Authentic & Heartfelt, this will be the sweetest binge you’ve had in a while.
Ghar Waapsi on Disney+ Hotstar is a slice-of-life series from the house of Dice Media, the makers of Little Things, Adulting, etc. Clearly, their forte is telling stories that are relatable, real and in the most raw and authentic way possible. The makers know this well and are back with another extremely relatable story of Shekhar, a middle-class guy from Indore working in a start-up in Bangalore. He loses his job owing to a lay-off and has moved back to his home. What lies ahead is a story of re-finding oneself and re-connecting with one’s roots.
The writing of Ghar Wapasi is extremely organic and almost feels like a conversation out of your life. The writers Bharat Misra, Tatsat Pandey and Kartik Krishnan have not only written very well researched characters, but also the overall writing is very practical and real. Also, the have grasped the socio-cultural milieu very well and the dialogues and writing will transport you to Indore more than the setting and locations. The element of comedy is very well balanced with an otherwise very deep and mundane concept.
Ruchir Arun, the director, who has previously directed ‘Little Things’ knows his art well and he is great at translating such simple and light-hearted stories to the big-screen. He has a great hold on the actors and also knows how to bring the best out of them. The technical aspects including cinematography and editing are decent. The production design is average.
Coming to the performances, Ashish Vashishtha is Dice Media’s new Dhruv Sehgal, and probably- a better one. He is bang on with the accent, and the overall portrayal of a ‘Indori Bhaiya’. He also manages to switch well from this to a professional ‘Corporate Rat’ easily. The others in the ensemble are even more great with their parts. Especially, Atul Srivastava and Anushka Kaushik are just unmissable. Also, Ajitesh Gupta is great playing the character of Darshan Bhaiya, which in itself is very quirky.
On the whole, Ghar Wapsi has something for everyone who’s watching it and something that everyone can pick from it. It is not only relatable to people who work in the corporates, but will also be a great series for families to watch together. It has lessons about friendship, love, families, and more than everything, about finding one’s true calling. Ghar Wapsi has 6 episodes with roughly around 45 minutes each and is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
