Govinda Naam Mera
A comedy that is funny and thrilling in equal proportions. Govinda Naam Mera is entertaining and draws much of its power from Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar and Kiara Advani’s electrifying performance.
Govinda Naam Mera is directed by Dharma Director, Shashank Khaitan who has previously directed Humpty Sharma, Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya and Dhadak. This time, he spins a little off from his usual genres and ventures into making a comedy-thriller. This film revolves around Govinda and his life that is falling apart amidst this whirlwind of misfortune. The makers have blended thrill and comedy proportionately to make this film a great watch. Also, there are enough twists and a great suspense that is held till the end.
The highlight of this film are the performances. Vicky Kaushal, who plays Govinda is extraordinary portraying his part. He nails the accent, the innocence and also adds the quirkiness to the character. Bhoomi Pednekar is bang on as Gauri Waghmare. She nails the accent and is perfect with the dialogue delivery as well as the body language. Kiara Advani plays her part decently too. To add support are Amey Wagh, Renuka Sahane, Dayanand Shetty and Viraj Ghelani. All of them are great with their bit.
Shashank Khaitan is great with the writing as well as the screenplay. A little confusing but boils down good on screen. The dialogues are good too with quite a few one liners to make you chuckle if not laugh hard. The cinematography, editing and production design are average. The Waghmare House looks built up somewhere in a film studio set. The ‘Bombay Feels’ are missing from the film. Also, the last scene in Thailand seems to have been shot locally. On the whole, Govinda Mera Naam is an enjoyable watch. More so because you don’t have to actually buy a ticket for it. Had it been released on the big screen, then it seriously lacks the cinematic grandeur and feel. However, it is family-drama that you can enjoy together at your homes. It is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
