Major
Major is an extremely cathartic and inspiring film based on the life of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan who sacrificed his life in the attack of 26/11. Extremely well-made and shot simultaneously in Hindi and Telugu, this movie will fill you with patriotism and is a must watch!
Starring Adivi Sesh, in and as Major, this film is a true story based on the life of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan who fought against terrorists and was killed in action during the 2008 attacks at the Taj Palace Hotel in Mumbai, India.
This film takes us through his early life when he decides to be a Soldier. What it takes to be one, the sacrifices that go into it, the toll it takes on families and the passion that it requires to be a soldier. The first half focuses on the backstory and his love life with his school sweetheart played by Saiee Manjrekar. The action starts in the second half when the events of 26/11 unfold. As a part of the NSG, Maj. Sandeep Unnikrishnan voluntarily leads the squad to rescue the Taj Mahal Palace.
The first half is very sweet and slice of life with cute scenes and little moments which establish the character and make the needed impact later in the second half. Whereas, the second half is all about action, thrill and terrifying moments of the attack of 26/11. There have been many films made on 26/11 till date but this by far has to be the most nicely executed in terms of the Taj Mahal Palace’s action sequence.
The performance by Adivi Sesh is commendable. He is absolutely great as Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan. He has performed the stunts and action sequences with such authenticity. Saiee Manjrekar is great as his love interest and adds the needed. The support roles are played nicely by Prakash Raj and Revathi. Special mention to Shobita Dhulipala, she has an extended cameo in the second half and she pulls off her sequence excellently.
The cinematography, editing, BGM are on point and make the movie a stunning piece. The direction by Sashi Kiran Tikka is great, as well. Major also many a times remind you of Shershah and other army movies serving the message of selfless service and the sacrifice that some people give so that we are able to live peacefully.
On the whole, Major is a film that will make you cry, empathize and also make you realize the importance of Army personnel and their sacrifices.
