Mumbai Saga
It is mass-entertainers like these that will bring the audience back to the cinemas. It has a starry ensemble, power-packed action, great dialogues and a good entertainment quotient. Mumbai Saga is visually raw yet aesthetic and deserves to be watched on the big-screen!
Set against the backdrop of the 90s when Bombay was being renamed to Mumbai, Mumbai Saga, inspired by true events is a Gangster-Drama film that tells the rags to riches story of Amartya Rao played by John Abraham. Coming from Sanjay Gupta, the director of the Shootout films, and Kaabil, this one too has it all. Power-packed grand action sequences, whistle-worthy dialogues, and of course his peculiar style of comedy and quirk.
The performance by John Abraham is stupendous. He is bold and terrifying. It by far has to be his film. Emran Hashmi comes to play in the 2nd half and does what he is good at. Both John and Emran are just too smooth at pulling off their respective characters. Also, special praise and mention to Mahesh Manjrekar and Amole Gupte for playing their characters audaciously.
The film is shot well. Its raw and aesthetic visuals make it a big-screen watch. Look out for the action scene in the washroom in the pre-climax of the film. It was the highlight for me. The only downside is that the 2nd half is needlessly stretched and the Honey Singh song out of nowhere bummed me off. The film could have been edited tightly to end it 15 minutes sooner. On the whole, Mumbai Saga has it all to make you want to go to the theaters.
