Panchayat Season 2
Slice of life, hilarious, touching and impactful, Panchayat- Season 2 exceeds the bar set by the first season. This drama-comedy is the light & easy watch that the OTT space lacks. There will not be a single minute that you don’t smile and towards the end, it’ll also make you cry!
Back in the first lockdown of 2020, Panchayat had come to our rescue and roped us out of the gloomy sad days with its fresh and breezy plotline with unconventional filmmaking. Everything right from the narrative, dialogues, performances left a mark on our hearts.
It is very rare for the second season of such a highly loved show that has created such waves to live up to the expectations. The graph usually diminishes every passing season. However, Panchayat breaks this theory and how! Not only does it live up to the expectations but surpasses it.
Panchayat reminds you a lot of Malgudi Days. Just like the age-old classic, Panchayat also in a very sweet and comic way, presents the day-to-day life of a town called ‘Phulera’. While Malgudi Days is the best possible comparison, Panchayat also has elements that we saw in Shah Rukh Khan’s Swades. A lad from the city coming to a village and finding his purpose and soul there.
What makes Panchayat one of the best series on the Indian OTT space is namely 3 things. Excellent writing-direction, organic and supreme performances and stunning production value.
The performance by Jitendra Kumar is smooth and he has devoted himself to the character which is apparent from the output. Neena Gupta and Raghubir Yadav are excellent playing their parts. They are known as individual performers but to see this duo together is another experience altogether. They are some of the best artists India has! Chandan Roy and Faisal Malik add excellent support and are such a delight to watch. The funniest moments in this show are the ones where Chandan Roy is on screen alongside Raghubir Yadav and Jitendra Kumar.
The production value is excellent in terms of the production design. I have mentioned it in season 1’s review and it is only worth mentioning again that the makers have actually shot it in a real village and so accurately captured every detail it in its raw, rustiness. The cinematography is brilliant making this translation from real to reel possible. The editing of the second season had a few glitches and could have been better and tighter. The show seems a little dragged and slow quite a few times. This will be the only downside of Panchayat. It bums those out who cannot digest slow paced content.
