Sherni is a Bollywood film made in a “Not-So-Bollywood” style. For everyone who has the appetite for slow paced artsy cinema, this one will be a treat!

The story of a Forest Officer posted in a Jungle where a Tiger is killing people. How hard will it be for her to captivate the tiger alive? Amidst dirty politics and bureaucracy, Vidya Balan who plays Vidya Vincent gets helpless and isolated just as easily as any other woman in a man dominated world is likely to get.

The plot has two aspects. First is saving the tiger and the conservationist aspect. The second is the feminist bit. The feminist line of the plot is not well written as the relationship of Vidya with her husband and Mother(s) isn’t written with depth and layers. The film predominantly focuses on the jungle, the tiger, and the politics of the forest division and rural government.

The cinematography, CGI, and BGM is worth praising and the makers using these elements make you transcend to the forest and you’ll feel every bit of it. The performances are bang on! And not only the lead cast, the villagers and the other supporting cast perform so well. The direction by the director of Newton, Amit Masurkar is great.

On the whole, the film is a slow-paced story without much of an entertainment quotient. However, it should be watched for the many messages it has to give. But if you like a film with drama and masala, this film won’t feed your appetite. Especially, if you are a sucker for happy endings, you won’t like how this film ends.
