Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai
This is exactly how court-room dramas are supposed to be and re-teaches Bollywood the meaning of this genre. Sincere, impactful and intriguing, you shouldn’t miss this movie at any cost.
The Bollywood depiction of court-room dramas is so that the audience expects humour more than sincerity. Judges will be caricatured, the lawyers will be fooling around and arguing hilariously and the sanctity of the court, the judicial process is all tossed for entertainment. Only a handful films like Section 375, Pink and a few more have been honest to the genre. Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai is another film that stays true to making a well-intentioned legal movie and keeps the drama out of the court-room. Based on true-events, it revolves around the life of a lawyer, PC Solanki and how he single-handedly fights to get justice to a minor-girl who has been raped by an influential Godman.
The makers have done an excellent job with the writing. The technicalities of the law and the little nuances of the judiciary and court proceedings in India have been very well captured. The dialogues are very raw and lay down complex legal terms very simply. Just the screenplay is a little glitchy and doesn’t flow smoothly. The time period of the events and the scene-to-scene continuity is broken and mostly un-explained. However, this doesn’t impact the overall flow of the film at large. Also, while the movie makes an impact, the factor could have been more intense hitting a little more emotions.
The anchor of this film is Sirf Ek Bandaa – Manoj Bajpayee. His performance is perfect to another level. He pulls of the role of a small-time lawyer based out of Rajasthan in a very layered and organic manner. He is the finest actor that India has and his portrayal of PC Solanki in this film is going to be a benchmark. The other technical aspects including the cinematography, editing and the production design and BGM are decent.
Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai is a film that should be watched by everyone given that it not only delivers an impactful message regarding our judiciary but also restores our faith in the belief that no matterwhat, Good always prevails Evil and all it takes is just 1 person to put honest efforts with right intentions to achieve the impossible. It was released as a Zee5 Original film and is streaming on Zee5. After receiving critical acclaim and exceptional acceptance online, it also saw a theatrical release on 2nd June in some limited screens and time. You can watch this either on Zee5 or in a theatre near you (in case it is screening).
