‘The Girl on the Train’ is based on a book by Paula Hawkins and an American film based on the book thereon both titled the same. This film is a murder mystery cum psychological thriller. Hence, this is going to be a #SpoilerFree review. So, without giving away the plot, let me cut the chase and get to the facts that make this film such a great watch.
First things first, the performance by Parineeti Chopra is terrific. She is too good as the protagonist, Mira Kapoor. She gives you goosebumps and leaves you in awe. She is the show runner and if you need just one reason to stream this film, it will be this. Secondly, the plot is very edgy and intriguing. The suspense is so very well-built and retained till the end. The atmosphere and tension is also well built by the director-writer Ribhu Dasgupta. There are flaws in terms of continuity and building of the secondary characters. However, on the whole, the story flows well and keeps the viewer hooked. The way the complexities keep on amplifying towards the climax is awesome to see.
Shot in London, the film is visually appealing. The background music lacks the punch and doesn’t contribute to the feel. Not digging any further as I might end up spilling some beans. Bollywood has another well-made murder-mystery on its hat and this will be a delight to all the fans of this genre. Apart from just being a murder -mystery, this film is also a psychological thriller and only people with an appetite for such cinema should stream this. Just 2 hours in length, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this. Do let me know your views.
