Top Gun Maverick
There are movies, and then there is ‘Top Gun Maverick’. This is not just how sequels should be done, this is how CINEMA should be done. What an exhilarating experience to watch this magnificent film on the big screen! You have to head to the cinema halls at any cost!
36 Years later, ‘Top Gun Maverick’ starring Tom Cruise releases as a sequel to the 1986 classic, ‘Top Gun’ which also starred Cruise. This time, the aviation drama gets bigger, better and probably the finest piece of art out there. Tom Cruise has never been better and this is probably his best work, too! The action superstar is known for pulling amazing and deadly sequences and he does it with no to minimal support from a body double. He proves his capabilities yet again at the age of 60 in this high-octane aviation movie. No amount of praise can ever be enough for Tom Cruise. He was, is and will always be everyone’s favourite star!
Not only has Tom Cruise trained for flying the fighter jets, the entire crew was trained to fly the jets and most of the sequences are real and shot in an actual jet flew by the actors themselves. Don’t believe me? Watch it in the link below for yourself. It is just amazing to see what the team has made possible. It takes sheer passion and madness to do something like this and only an action lover like Tom could have done this.
Top Gun Maverick picks up where the prequel left off. Maverick i.e., Cruise has retired from the Top Gun school and has a heart filled with the remorse of being responsible for his best friend’s (Goose’s) death which actually was an accident. Now when he is called back to the school as a teacher, his task is to train young fighter pilots for an impossible mission. Goose’s son is one amongst the students. What lies ahead is a roller coaster journey of amazing aviation sequences, high octane action, drama and lots of emotions packed with enough comedy as well.
While I have zero understanding of the technicalities of aviation, I still can surely vouch for the fact that whatever was on screen felt so real and authentic. Every little detail is nailed so accurately. The direction, production design, cinematography, SFX/VFX/ CGI, editing, BGM…everything is just bang on! Hats off to the entire team for pulling this cinematic marvel off!
There has never been a sequel that I have been so happy with. This film gives you immense satisfaction as a viewer and is a testament to the fact that you need not always have a dark/tragic or an open ending for the audience to engage. You can make an impact, rather a solid one even while keeping everything simple and happy. This film is not just a master class on how a sequel should be made, but is a master class on filmmaking at large!
Throughout the runtime, you feel a rush of mixed emotions. You’re smiling, on the edge of the seats with goosebumps, about to pour out and then…smiling again! This film will not only give you the satisfaction of watching an excellent piece of art but also entertain you and keep you engaged. The visuals, the grandeur, the action is all meant to be witnessed on the big screen and nowhere else. Try to watch this film in IMAX/4DX if you can. It will be one hell of an experience!
I can go on writing on and on about this movie and it deserves every bit of it. Everyone should experience this extravaganza at all costs. Do watch the 1986 Top Gun before heading to the cinemas as it is completely linked and essential for you to understand the story. Can’t stress enough…please don’t wait…just witness the magic of Tom Cruise and Top Gun on the big screen!
