Don’t Look Up
Thought-provoking, awakening, funny and not so funny, all at the same time. This sci-fi satire is a perfect take on the current world that is in denial, ignorant, self-obsessed and doesn’t care about real problems. Don’t Look Up is a must watch for its message and for the performances by the ensemble, of-course!
This Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio starrer movie on Netflix is a must watch!
Don’t Look Up is a sci-fi satire revolving around two scientists played by Leonardo Di Caprio and Jennifer Lawrence who have identified a comment the size of a mountain heading towards earth. They are on a quest to warn the government and people regarding this apocalypse that will end the world but lesser they know about political agendas and the self-obsessed ignorant people living in denial. The world is in the hands of a few rich people with their greedy motives, and it will end if people continue to disregard scientific facts. Don’t Look Up delivers this message with an impact and does it right in time. Because we aren’t far from seeing a fictitious story like this translate into reality.
The climax of this film will remind you of the 2009 film, ‘2012’ which too was a sci-fi movie revolving around the end of the world. In the end, it is only a few rich people who’ll be able to save themselves leaving the others to die. Overall, the screenplay moves very fast having a lot to tackle, losing neatness in the process. However, it does make an impact and proves its point. There are glitches in continuity and editing yet this story and direction by Adam McKay are worth it. Comedy and Satire have been used well to make this otherwise intense and depressing story, entertaining and enjoyable. The VFX has been well-done.
Don’t Look Up stars an ensemble of fantastic actors apart from the lead duo- Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Rob Morgan all of whom perform nicely. But Leonardo and Jennifer are the show stealers. Also, there is a cameo by Ariana Grande and Chris Evans which almost goes unnoticed. For all the Indian viewers, there is an appearance by Ishaan Khatter!
On the whole, Don’t Look Up is a film that we should really remember and learn from before it gets too late.
