Ajeeb Daastaans
‘Ajeeb Daasataans’ an anthology film consisting of 4 short films, brings to you 4 very strange, unusual stories which will evoke a plethora of different emotions in you. This by far has to be one of the best Anthology films out there. Especially, do not miss the third short, ‘Geeli Pucchi’ by Neeraj Ghaywan at any cost.
‘Ajeeb Daasataans’ an anthology film consisting of 4 short films, brings to you 4 very strange, unusual stories which will evoke a plethora of different emotions in you. Tapping on deep human feelings of loneliness and sexuality to give out a social message, these shorts span the entire range of the spectrum giving everyone something to think about.
The first short, ‘Majnu’ by Shashank Khaitan is a revenge story. Simple, yet intriguing, this one just shows how good Shashank Khaitan can get outside his forte of Romedy.
The second one, ‘Khilauna’ by Raj Mehta, the director of Good News is a dark thriller that revolves around a maid who is exploited by the ‘Richs’ of the society. As straight as this plot sounds, the film dives deep into human psychology and spills out the bitter truth. Look out for the performance by the little girl Binni played by Inayat Verma who you’ll remember if you saw Ludo.
The third and my favorite amongst all the shorts, ‘Geeli Pucchi’ directed by Neeraj Ghaywan is a film that revolves around the brutal caste system and Gender biases that prevail in India. At the same time, it also taps on sexuality as the lead ladies have feelings for each other. One film, 30 minutes in length and so many giveaways with such a solid impact. I loved how Karma is used as a character in itself. You’ll know what the last line means after you watch the film. Another thing that I absolutely loved about this short is the performances. Konkona Sen Sharma, like always, pulls off different and off-beat roles like these. She is absolutely under the skin. And, Aditi Rao Hydari is beyond comprehension. The way she is holding the character, the accent, the expressions. Oh my God! I am a fan! This one is not something that you should be skipping at ANY COST! MUST-WATCH!
The last short, ‘Ankahi’ is again, a tale that browses human psychology and fractured relationships. A simple story with great performances.
On the whole, this has to be one of the best Anthology films out there. Exceptional storytelling with extraordinary performances, there is no reason to not watch this! It is streaming on Netflix.
