Farzi
Raj & DK are back with their peculiar style and hook you to this con-drama that is fun, intense and very entertaining. Shahid Kapoor & Vijay Sethupathi hit it out of the park in their OTT debut.
The creators of ‘The Family Man’ are back and how. This time, Raj & DK marry ‘Badmash Company’ to ‘The Family Man’ and the off-spring, ‘Farzi’ is just as equally intense, gripping and entertaining. Farzi, consisting of 8 episodes of roughly and hour each is a con-drama revolving around the protagonist Sunny played by Shahid Kapoor and his friend Firoz played by Bhuvan Arora. Tired of living sub-standard life and dejected by the harshness of the unfavoring world, they set out to use their art and skills to make counterfeit currency notes. But once you chose the path of wrong, there is no scope for turning back. One thing leads to another and they soon trapped deep in the world of crime.
The best part about Farzi or for that matter, any series created by Raj & DK is the fact that they layer every single character very neatly with everyone having a backstory and an arch. The writing of Farzi is the real hero. So many clap-worthy lines and the dialogues are so raw and organic. The writing will resonate with everyone watching the series. Second thing that deserves praise is the attention to detail and the way the makers capture little nuances of the world of counterfeit notes. All in all, Raj & DK are able to aptly blend humour, drama, and thrills.
Coming to the performances, Shahid Kapoor nails it yet again with a completely different character than what he has ever portrayed. He becomes the middle-class struggling Mumbaikar with ease and is able to pull off the slightly tapori or everyday Mumbai slang very well. Vijay Sethupathi, on the other hand, is in his very natural form and delivers a flawless and very authentic performance. More than the lead actors, the performances that stand out are of – Bhuvan Arora who plays the role of Firoz. He adds humour and slag with his delivery and act. Along with this, Raashi Khanna, Kay Kay Menon & Amol Palekar are an absolute treat to watch. Special mention to Saqib Ayub for playing Anees. You’ll have a laugh riot whenever he is on screen.
On the technical front, Raj & DK’s direction is flawless and they precisely know what they have to bring out. The cinematography & editing is excellent making the series very visually appealing. In a nutshell, Farzi is an out-and-out binge worthy a series that you shouldn’t miss at all. Also, for all The Family Man fans, there are quite a few references and integrations in Farzi that you’d enjoy. Raj & DK are also creating a universe of their own that is going to be crazy! A little spoiler – the series have been left open hinting towards a second season.
