Raj & DK stir nostalgia, pulp fiction, quirk and black comedy in this hilarious Netflix Series. Guns & Gulaabs has everything that you’d want a popcorn entertainer to have. It is just too good to be missed!

Made by the superhit duo of Raj & DK, the creators of Go Goa Gone, The Family Man & Farzi – Guns & Gulaabs is a black comedy based in the backdrop of the 90s made in pulp fiction style. Raj & DK are known for their peculiar quirk and direction and they add the same to this Netflix Series too. Two drug cartels are fighting for the biggest deal of their lifetime and an honest narcotics officer is trying to chase them down. This simple storyline is loaded with a dozen of more pivotal characters in a multi-linear narrative adding to the complexity and in turn making the plot hilarious and unpredictable.

The writing is on point. There are so many characters yet not one feels needless. Every character is well layered and has a purpose. The dialogues are very organic, comic yet thoughtful. The screenplay is very clean and sharp. Multi-linear narrative with so many characters usually get messy. But the makers have a strong grip on it. The way all the lines collide towards a very unpredictable and thrilling climax is to look out for and probably the best part of the series. The series might seem a little long, but it grows with every passing episode and the climax is worth the drag.

The most appealing part and what deserves special mention is how the makers are able to take you back in time to the 90s and hit you with nostalgia. If you are a 90s kid, your heart will skip many beats seeing the cassettes, Campa Colas, the moped bikes, the hairstyle, the costumes.  You’ll also be reminiscing the good old school days when you first stupidly fell in love, played book cricket and FLAMES. Every single detail about the 90s is so well captured that you’ll for sure be transported and not want to come back from that time. If you want a single reason to watch this series, it will be this.

The performances on the other hand, are bang on! The makers have hand-picked everyone in the ensemble. Dulquer Salmaan, Rajkummar Rao, Gulshan Devaiah, Adarsh Gourav, T.J. Bhanu all of them perform exceptionally seeping deep in their character’s skin. The kids who play the teenage school students deserve praise too.

In a nutshell, Guns & Gulaabs has everything. A novel storyline, exceptional performances, immense entertainment value, lots of humour and nostalgia. I don’t see why any one should miss this! It is streaming on Netflix.
