I haven’t laughed so hard in theatres since the longest time. Jugjugg Jeeyo, starring Varun Dhawan, Anil Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor and Kiara Advani, is a story of a young couple fed up with their marriage who want a divorce. Twist is that, their parents also want a divorce. What lies ahead is not only comedy but also a roller-coaster of emotions and some subtle integration of much valuable messages.

The writing of Jugjugg Jeeyo is fantastic. The screenplay is very neat with multiple plotlines and various events being run smoothly. But the real winner is the dialogues. It is always very hard to write comedy that people will relate to, and laugh their hearts out to. The dialogues are very modern and the jokes and one-liners are hilarious. Also, in a couple of intense sequences, the dialogues are sensible enough and make you realize different perspectives.

As important as writing is in a comedy, it is equally important for the actors to be able to deliver the comedy and make people laugh. The choice of actors matters just too much in a comedy film and Jugjugg Jeeyo hits it out of the park with its casting. Varun Dhawan is best known for his melodious comedy roles and have done well in the past in Main Tera Hero, Dhishoom, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya and Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya. This time too, he delivers a great performance with his slapstick act and also the innocence on his face. Kiara Advani, the new face of Dharma is exactly how all Dharma heroines are. She also carries her Good News act forward to this film. However, the real stars are- Anil Kapoor & Neetu Kapoor. Anil Kapoor is hands down the best comedy actor ever. He has pulled off movies like Welcome, No Entry etc. and there is no doubt about seeing him in comedy roles. He is absolutely hilarious to watch and extremely on point with his dialogue delivery and performance. This also marks Neetu Kapoor’s first onscreen performance without Husband Rishi Kapoor. As previously, Neetu only worked in roles alongside Husband Rishi Kapoor. She has always been a great performer and pulls of an intense act in this one, too.

On the side, there is Manish Paul who deserves extra applause for adding the extra punch of humour in right proportions. He is such a great comedian and he proves it yet again. Couldn’t have imagined anyone to play the role of this side-kick better. Also, it marks the Bollywood debut of YouTuber Prajakta Koli aka ‘MostlySane’. We have previously seen Prajakta as a lead in her own Netflix Series, Mismatched. Jugjugg Jeeyo is her first big screen role. While the room she is given is very minimum, she does her bit.

It is a Dharma Productions film. Coming to the dance, costume and grandeur- it is all appealing and the film is a visual treat. Be it the locations, cinematography, the sets and costumes. Everything is grand just as all Karan Johar productions are expected to be. The dance numbers are also equally grand. The BGM is great and supplements the comedy and makes it bloom more. However, the soundtrack is average with only a few songs that you would want to listen on repeat. Nach Punjaban and Rangsari are the two best songs which will instantly make it to your playlist. There is another soulful song which is great but the other party numbers are forgettable.

On the whole, Jugjugg Jeeyo works. Mainly for the reason that it is able to entertain. With a great story that is relatable, funny and filled with emotions, Jugjugg Jeeyo also makes the impact that it intends to. It is a must-watch for everyone who is in the mood for some light-hearted comedy and an wholesome entertainer. It will be a satisfying watch.
