Milestone
Milestone is such a fantastically made film. It has layers, depth and such important life philosophies that it delivers subconsciously while you are hypnotized by the slowly brewed plot. Everyone will have different perceptions and take-aways from the film. And this has to be the best thing about it!
Milestone is the story of a tragedy-struck driver who is trying to find an escape from the grief of his wife’s loss by working 2 shifts a day. But life has unexpected turns planned. An apprentice might end up taking his job. This film follows this plot and ends up teaching so much about life, human-philosophies, and a lot more.
The best part about the film is that it is so complicated yet so simple at the core. Everyone who watches this will go to bed with different endings, perceptions, and takeaways. The film has an open ending for the viewers to decode and trust me, you’ll only have wonderful alternatives.
The writing is amazing. The writers have sure researched a lot and put forth the story of the working class and laborers of India so authentically. The use of symbolism is on point. For instance, ‘Rain’ is used as a symbol to show good times. There is a dialogue in the last scene that shows how life is a circle and can turn.
The Character of Ghalib, the protagonist has layers, depth, and an unexplainable human touch that connects you with him so emotionally. The performance of Suvinder Vicky who plays Ghalib is astonishing. His face carries agony, depression, struggle, and loneliness, all at once. It is almost hard to believe that he is an actor playing a character. Lakshvir Saran who plays Pash is absolutely great with his part. The cinematography is raw, rustic, and really captivating. The use of long-shots and follow-shots is so well done. The aesthetics are aptly captured and are capable of transporting you there.
On the whole, there is no reason why you won’t like this film. However, you have to have a little taste for art and off-beat cinema to be able to appreciate this to its fullest. Not everyone’s cup of tea. Again, this has to be the most amazing art film I have seen in a long long time! Milestone is presented by Netflix and streaming on the said platform.
