At a time when the box-offices were absolutely dead and haunted by the pandemic spell, when people started speculating that no one would return to the theatres, Sooryavanshi still took the leap of faith to release during the Diwali time. And with a starry ensemble, right marketing and lucky timings, Sooryavanshi has taken on the box-office with a storm.
Films that released after the 1st re-opening of cinemas post the 1st wave had witnessed miserable occupancy rates almost making people believe that movie theatres were dead. However, Sooryavanshi proved that the power of cinema and the magic of the big-screen experience can never vanish. Though released with 50% occupancy in majority states including Maharashtra, the Akshay Kumar starrer was able to collect Rs. 26.29crs on Day 1 itself. It crossed the 100crs mark within 5 days of its release with the day 5 collection being Rs.102crs. And now, after 26 days of its release, its India collection stands at Rs.190.37crs. Will Sooryavanshi will be able to cross the 200crs mark despite a lot of big new releases including Tadap and competition from existing big banner films including Antim, Bunty aur Babli and Disney’s Encanto is what will be interesting to see.
Sooryavanshi is directed by Rohit Shetty who is fondly and rightly called the ‘Hit-Machine’ and stars Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif and has cameos by the Simbaa actor Ranveer Singh and the Singham of Bollywood, Ajay Devgn. Rohit Shetty has created a powerful cop-universe of his own connecting all the films and also gave a hint in the climax of Sooryavanshi that Singham-3 will be the next release in this universe. And after this news, we can’t wait to see Ajay Devgn back as Singham!
Sooryavanshi is the 15th film of Akshay Kumar to be entering the 100crs club. Apart from becoming Akshay’s 15th, Sooryavanshi has also cemented Rohit Shetty’s position as the director with a 100 per cent Box Office record. The director has not given a single flop movie in the last 13 years and in his career spanning 18 years. The director is currently on the top when it comes to rating Bollywood directors with a 100 per cent success record at the Box Office. He is closely followed by Rajkumar Hirani, who too has not given any flop in his direction career so far. With the success of Sooryavanshi, Shetty’s currency has become even more solid in the industry.
Even if it doesn’t cross the 200crs mark, it is safe to say that Sooryavanshi has definitely brought back the movie-goers to the theatres and has also brought back the magic of the big screen!
