Spiderman: No Way Home has re-released in the theatres with 11 minutes of additional footage. What’s in “The More Fun Stuff Version” and is it worth a re-watch?
Spiderman: No Way Home had hit the theatres in December 2021 and had set the Indian as well as the global box-office on fire. This is Tom Holland’s third independent Spider Man movie and the 6th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Spiderman: No Way Home is a milestone movie and is receiving the craze and buzz that it is because of the fact that it brings back Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield to the screen, the actors who played Spider-Man erstwhile.
Spiderman: No Way Home collected a worldwide total of $1.89 billion and stands as the 6th highest grossing film in the world. It had a fantastic run in India with a collection of Rs. 212 crores. No Bollywood film has achieved this feat of crossing 200 crores post-pandemic.
Marvel re-released an extended version of the film as “Spiderman: No Way Home ‘The More Fun Stuff Version’” with 11 minutes of additional footage. While the original movie was lengthy in itself with a runtime of 2hours 37 minutes, the re-released version is approx. 2 hours 50 minutes in length. The 11 minutes of additional footage includes deleted scenes sprinkled across the runtime in bits and a new post-credit scene as well.
Marvel and Spidey fans are all excited to catch this version on the big-screen as much as they were excited for the first release of the film. Back then the shows started as early as 4am in the morning so that the fans could catch it before the spoilers were out. This time too, Marvel has marketed the re-release with new posters, teasers and videos by Tobey, Andrew and Tom. So, what’s exactly in the additional footage of the extended version and is it worth your time and money? While there are quite a few additions, let’s dive in some of the major ones:
New opening scene before the title
The first major addition is an opening dialogue before the title between the 3 Peter Parkers who thank the audience for the love that they have given to Spider Man and share how they enjoyed coming back together for the film.
Tom Holland’s brother’s cameo
One of the fun additions to Spider-Man: No Way Home’s extended cut is reinserting the scrapped cameo of Tom Holland’s brother, Harry Holland. His brother plays a robber who Spider-Man stops in the street. Remember the green stained costume that Spiderman is constantly trying to wash in the original cut? Well, it gets tainted in this scene.
Peter Parker’s first day at school
Several new moments from Peter Parker’s first day at school are shown in a montage sequence.
Betty Brant Interview
As Spiderman has started school as the popular celebrity, Betty Brant interviews not only him but also his friends and teachers which airs on the school’s channel. This is one of the key sequences and the longest addition of the new version.
Spiderman and ‘The Villains’ in the elevator
A very small but the funniest additions is when the villains and Spiderman go to Happy’s apartment. All of them are awkwardly standing in the elevator. This scene has no dialogues but is a fun add.
Matt Murdock defends Happy Hogan
Daredevil fans can rejoice as Spider-Man: No Way Home’s extended cut includes one additional Matt Murdock scene. Happy is questioned by Damage Control about if he had anything to do with stolen Stark Industries technology, and Happy hires Matt to be his lawyer.
More dialogues between the ‘Three Peter Parkers’ before the climax action sequence & a new webbing action shot
Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Men get some extra time to chat before the final battle in Spider-Man: No Way Home – The More Fun Stuff Version. The lines could be read as the actors expressing interest in starring in new Spider-Man movies. The last new dialogue from this scene comes as Garfield’s Spider-Man says that the three of them need to do this again, teasing a chance for the three Spider-Men to share the big screen again.
New ‘post-credits’ scene
One of the biggest changes in Spider-Man: No Way Home’s extended cut comes after the credits. Instead of playing the ‘Doctor Strange: The Multiverse of Madness’ trailer again, there is a new post-credits scene. The scene shows some videos students see at Midtown School, including a segment by Betty Brant highlighting the last four years of high school. It offers glimpses from Spider-Man: Homecoming and ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’, but none of the photos or videos used include Holland’s Peter Parker. Doctor Strange’s spell has erased everyone’s memory of Peter Parker and ensured that people could not remember him.
While the changes aren’t significant and do not change the plot or upcoming storylines of the Marvel Movies in any manner. However, if you are a Marvel or Spiderman fan, the re-release version is a must-watch because it is MORE FUN STUFF!
