Torbaaz

Platform - Netflix Release Date - 11th December 2020 Review By - Pratik Rathi Tag - Latest Reviews Category - Movie Reviews

A sports-drama with a cause and a message, Torbaaz taps your emotions, leaves a smile on your face, and more than anything, makes you believe in the power of hope and goodness. A beautifully written film with some amazing performances, this is a MUST-WATCH!

Taking inspiration from the Afghanistan cricket scenes, writer-director Girish Malik has woven such a beautiful story of a tragedy-struck man seeking redemption by teaching cricket to refugee children so as to prevent them from being used as suicide bombers by terrorist organizations. As intense and heavy as this plot sounds, the film is actually a very breezy watch. It is so amazing to see how cricket has been used to break barriers and unite people.

The film is set in Afghanistan (actually shot in Kyrgyzstan) and the socio-cultural milieu has been so accurately captured. Every detail has been paid attention to. Especially the language. The film is also aesthetically shot and the visuals are appealing.

The casting of the film is bang on. Sanjay Dutt is great with his despaired character and performs extremely well. Special mention to Rahul Dev’s acting. He is terrifying with the accent and the rawness with which he acts. He has done justice beyond comprehension to his role. And the kids are amazing too. Kudos to the director to have brought out these performances.

This film will not only be a good and heartwarming watch but will also make you feel good and believe in the little things. Do watch Torbaaz, guys. It is streaming on Netflix.
