Anees Bazmee not only makes you laugh but also scare you sufficiently in this horror-comedy that is uplifted by Kartik’s comic timings and Tabu’s chilling act!

Bhool Bhulaiya 2 has been one of the most anticipated sequels given the popularity of the predecessor that released in 2007. Back then, the Akshay Kumar starrer had an unseen plotline, Priyadarshan’s writing and direction, timeless comedy, a little horror and amazing performances- that made it a cult classic.

To live up to such a popular movie warrants hard and constant comparison. Sequels usually fail to perform because they are not seen by a fresh lens. Bhool Bhulaiya 2 is a spiritual sequel, wherein only the theme of the franchise is retained and everything else i.e. the characters, plot, etc. changes. Hence, it doesn’t make sense comparing it with the original. There is no surpassing the Akshay Kumar classic. However, Bhool Bhulaiya 2, breaks the falling graph that sequels usually follow. If not better than the 1st, it definitely is a good and an enjoyable film independently.

Directed by Anees Bazmee who has films like Welcome, Ready, No Entry etc. to his fame, Bhool Bhulaiya 2 also follows his peculiar style of comedy and gives you splendid laughter. When Anees Bazmee is directing a film, seldom can it go flat. The plot does justice to the name, and just like a Bhool Bhulaiya, is very confusing filled with twists and turns. I couldn’t until the climax figure out the answers.

Kartik Aaryan’s comic timings is excellent and he doesn’t at all disappoint in this film. He has this very comic face looking at which makes you laugh instantly. But the real star of the movie is Tabu. She is absolutely wonderful as Manjulika. Don’t worry, this isn’t a spoiler. You’ll see. Tabu gives you goosebumps with her act. Oh, what an artist she is! Kiara Advani, overacts and plays the role in an average way. Rajpal Yadav, the ‘Chota Pandit’, doesn’t stand out like how the character did in the first. However, Rajpal Yadav lifts up any comedy movie that he is a part of even if he doesn’t have a single line. Sanjay Mishra and Ashwini Kalsekar add the needful.

The film has its downsides, the soundtrack isn’t great. The OG had an amazing album, so amazing that 3 songs i.e. Hare Ram, Title Song and Mere Dholna have been rebooted in the Kartik Aaryan starrer. The screenplay is a little hay wire with hiccups in the flow and continuity. However, overall, the Anees Bazmee directorial is enjoyable and gives plenty of laughs and yes, good amount of chills and thrills. You’ll get the value for your money and is a good weekend watch instead of Kangana Ranaut’s Dhakad which has released paralelly.
