Kathmandu Connection
The Indian ‘Cop-Gangster’ web-series genre is ever expanding and this one is another good addition to it.
Helmed by Sachin Pathak, Kathmandu Connection is a fictional story set in 1993 against the backdrop of the Bombay Blasts. A tragedy-struck cop seeking redemption gets involved in a mysterious kidnapping and murder both of which are linked to Kathmandu and also, the blasts.
The plot is extremely simple, lacking freshness. It is filled with clichés and trips on its own writing. However, the screenplay is neatly written to keep you thrilled and hooked. The series is short with 6 episodes of roughly 30 minutes each which makes it a binge-able watch regardless of its flaws. The character of the protagonist isn’t brewed appropriately which you’ll only realize towards the climax which is very abrupt and concludes hastily.
Kathmandu Connection doesn’t star any ‘A-List’ actors yet it outshines on the performance front. Amit Sial is outstanding as Samarth Kaushik and is definitely going to be counted amongst the league of Kay Kay Menon, Manoj Bajpayi, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The others in the ensemble are great, too. It is shot very well with the aesthetics of the 90s being captured. The background score by Sneha Khanwalkar is pulsating.
On the whole, if you are looking for a cop thriller and are done with watching all the other toppers of this genre, then this can be your pick. It has great performances and will be a quick watch. That’s my spoiler-free review of Kathmandu Connection. Happy binging.
