London Files
A thriller which derives its entire fuel from Arjun Rampal’s powerful performance and stunning visual appeal.
Arjun Rampal marks his second OTT stint after ‘The Final Call’ which premiered on Zee5. ‘London Files’ is a crime thriller revolving around a detective cop and how he deciphers the mysterious disappearance of a girl while fighting his inner demons and grief.
The plot is pretty much like a usual thriller and even predictable most of the times. But you are so much engrossed in Arjun Rampal’s acting and the stunning visual appeal of the series, that it becomes an exciting watch. Arjun Rampal is a fine actor and his good work is known to all. But he delivers a career best in the London Files. He plays a tragedy struck cop, who is depressed and holding over 1000 emotions on the face, all simultaneously. You are able to read anxiety and anguish on his face with minimal dialogues. The supporting cast adds a good deal, too.
Apart from the performances, the best part about the series is the amazing production design and the stunning visuals. Unlike how London is usually portrayed in movies and series, the London Files manages to paint it dark and hollow. The moment you see London on screen, you get very lively vibes. However, this series shows it in a very depressing way. It is really challenging to change a landscape so monumentally.
The story is average which eventually goes to a disappointing climax, but the screenplay is gripping. The dialogues are general and don’t make an impact. However, all of this is ignorable. The director has a strong hold on the screenplay and the actors and the same is apparent in the output.
Another good thing about the London Files is that it is short, crisp and doesn’t unnecessarily ends on a cliff hanger nor do the makers drag it purposely for renewing it for another season. 6 seasons of around 35 minutes each. Yes, that’s it. And after you complete binging it, you get a feeling of satisfaction as you get a closure. Many makers twist the plot to such an extent and leave so many things open towards the end making you feel all stupid and violated. Kudos to the makers of the London Files for not doing so and for giving a proper closure.
On the whole, the London Files is a satisfactory watch. You should not need any more reason apart from Arjun Rampal to make you start binging it right away. It will be a quick 3-4 hour watch, too. It is streaming on Voot Select. Click here to watch the trailer.
P.S.: I also suggest the readers to take a Voot Select subscription while the prices are low at Rs.299 for an entire year. Voot has some really great content including Asur, Ranjish Hi Sahi and now, the London Files. Also, it has an amazing pipeline ready with Asur 2 coming very soon and some more exciting shows!
