Bhavesh Joshi
Under the Spotlight, this month’s Friday is a 2018 film directed by Vikramaditya Motwane starring Harshvardhan Kapoor titled ‘Bhavesh Joshi Superhero’. Made on a budget of 21 Crore, this film merely managed to gross 1.5 Crore at the Box Office. Though praised by the critics, the audience failed to notice which is why it never saw the light of the day.
However, this film deserves more praise than what it received. Although the plot being a revenge story wherein a friend steps out to fight the powerful and the corrupts seeking revenge for his friend’s murder is a little cliché and will remind you of a lot of ‘Desh Ko Badalte Hai’/Anti-Corruption themed films. But what makes it different is its ability to still be able to strike a chord and be relatable. When protestors, comedians, or rather everyone who speak for the better are being oppressed by the police, the politicians, and the system at large, this film hits you more than ever.
Not only well-intentioned, the film is also very neatly made with detailing and depth. The way humor and drama have been used in bits and part is noteworthy. Keeps an otherwise heavy film easy to flow. Also, the film has been shot fantastically. In the streets, slums, and small houses of Bombay. My favorite scene being the action sequence in the Ward Officer’s house. Look out for that. It is beautifully shot. The performances by Harshvardhan Kapoor and Priyanshu Painyuli are great.
You might find this film a little long but there is no reason that will stop you from watching this till the end. Equally inspiring and entertaining, Bhavesh Joshi Superhero calls for a definite watch and is on Netflix for you to stream. Do let me know how you like it!
